On Wednesday night, when the Oklahoma City Thunder hosted the Dallas Mavericks at the Ford Center, the entire Thunder roster wore forward Kevin Durant’s new Nikes, dubbed the Creamsicles. Despite our love for the delicious childhood treat, the white uniform and orange shoe combo was frankly less than appetizing.
More troubling was the Thunder’s lackluster performance against the Mavs. Perhaps it was the defensive combo of Shawn Marion and Josh Howard that shut KD down, but we’d argue that something bigger was at play…something in the neighborhood of a size 15.
With the loss in their debut, the Creamsicles are cursed from the start (and the rubber-canvas combo doesn’t taste so good either). Someone needs to take control and rid that locker room of the plagued shoes, should they be contagious. Send them back to the third world countries where they were made, or start a bonfire, or something.
I guess we never gave proper consideration to the time-honored question, first posed by a young Spike Lee: Is it the Shoes?
Don’t forget the kids!!
