Sixth Man of the Day: Squad 6
If you went to a Milwaukee Bucks home game last year, you were probably greeted with a half-empty stadium and a less than enthusiastic fan base. Whether it was the rust-belt economy or the Bucks’ abysmal play, something was keeping the natives of Wisconsin out of the Bradley Center…but that was until starting center Andrew Bogut decided to take matters in his own hands.
Frustrated with the lack of crowd support, Bogut bought 100 tickets to every Bucks home game this season and he’s been giving them away to an elite group of Bucks fanatics, known as Squad 6 (Bogut is #6). That’s right — free tickets — just for being a shit crazy, flag-waving fan.
While the Bucks are still far from being an elite team, they’re 9–3 at home, so Squad 6 must be doing something right. Whether they’re chanting White Stripes songs in between quarters or coming up with some of the most creative cheers in the league (singing “Dude Looks Like a Lady” when Joakim Noah steps to the free throw line), Squad 6 is helping their city forget about its horrific winters and cheap beer and putting the focus back on basketball.
The best part? They had open auditions for entry into Squad 6. And you got extra points for bringing a hatred of Charlie Villanueva…
