Peter Gammons: The Song Remains the Same
Yesterday when we heard the news about Peter Gammons leaving ESPN, we were heartbroken. What would life be like without the Silver Fox pontificating on all things baseball?
But as we read more about Gammons’ departure from ESPN, we learned that he isn’t leaving the sport altogether, but is only moving to the MLB Network, which is clearly planting it’s flag in the sand as the premier channel for baseball coverage.
So, while it’s sad that we won’t get to see him in any more Baseball Tonight commercials and there may never be another Bo Diddly “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” tribute, it’s not the end of baseball as we know it. Let’s just hope that the hero worship continues:
Gammons isn’t bad with the axe, but he clearly isn’t as talented as the new-age Mozart who wrote his theme song.
