The MLB Twilight Zone: Takeout Gone Wrong
While the winter meetings continue in Indianapolis, there’s still plenty of baseball news to report on in New York…especially if you’re a quality publication like the Daily News.
According to the Daily News’ Amanda Sidman, this past Sunday night when Derek Jeter ordered takeout from his favorite neighborhood Italian joint, Nino’s Positano, it caused some major drama outside of his Tudor City apartment. When the restaurant’s excitable new hostess realized that it was none other than the Yankee Captain on the phone, she begged the deliveryman to tag along for the ride to Jeter’s building. Upon arrival, she “grabbed the food and tried to charm her way inside, begging the doorman to let her go up and meet Jeter with his dinner.”
Despite claiming to be Jeter’s #1 fan, the woman was promptly escorted out of the building. And to add insult to injury, Nino Selimaj, the owner of the eatery, promptly fired the hostess claiming, “I’ll take Jeter over that bimbo any day.” To be clear, we aren’t intimating that Mr. Selimaj is heartless — he will offer a free dinner to anyone who got screwed by Bernie Madoff.
Next time the Captain goes to his favorite neighborhood eatery, he may have to disguise himself…which could make eating a bowl of manicotti more complicated.
