Whether it’s a little leaguer or the lovable Louis Tiant, what kid doesn’t want to impress his father? And throughout baseball’s rich history, we’ve seen countless ballplayers follow in their father’s footsteps, building their family’s legacy on the field.
But while Prince and Cecil swap big league stories over veggie burgers and baba ganoush, it’s not always that simple. And by taking a peek at the Austins — arguably the greatest umpiring family in the history of our national pastime — we can see just how dysfunctional things can get.
For the record, the Austins are trend setters. Evidently, Joe Buck has been outlawed from discussion at breakfast tables across the nation.
